Simbolic Celebration of the 121st Doge of Venezia

June 10, 2026

The story of the birth of an idea, of a tribute to Venice and the Venetians.

We want to celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of Venice.

Because we believe it deserves to be known, rediscovered, respected, and celebrated.

We believe that those who made it great in the past, like its history, deserve to be remembered.

We believe that the Venetians who live and keep it alive today deserve recognition.

We believe that all the artisans, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, and all those who, with their work and activities, contribute to enhancing and maintaining the prestige of the City while safeguarding its decorum and respecting it, deserve equal recognition and gratitude.

That’s why we thought the best way to be recognized in this regard is to establish an official memorial day for the Serenissima: May 13th.

Why May 13th?

Because it is the date immediately following its fall (not due to military defeat but to political choice) on May 12, 1797, when the 120th and last Doge of Venice, Ludovico Manin, dissolved the Great Council following Napoleon Bonaparte’s threats of destruction, thus decreeing the end of the thousand-year-old Republic founded in 697.

That’s why, ever since we produced our Prosecco, specifically naming it “121° DoXe” (“Doxe” in Venetian means “Doge”), we’ve been trying to bring the history of the Serenissima back to light on that date, organizing events in the city and engaging local authorities to officially recognize May 13th as a symbolic day for Venice.

In this regard, an important occasion involving local authorities was the press conference at the Veneto Regional Council, held on January 30, 2025, attended by the President of the Veneto Regional Council, Roberto Ciambetti, and Regional Councilor Marco Dolfin (the article and interviews can be found at this).

It’s not easy; it requires time and the ongoing involvement of local, municipal, and provincial authorities and individuals. It’s a long and difficult journey, but we’re trying. Through our wines and our voices.

Over the years, we’ve organized several events to celebrate the 121st Doxe anniversary. Special mention should be made of the one held at Caffè Florian in Piazza San Marco in 2023 and the one presented in 2025 on Sant’Elena aboard the famous “Burcio” vessel, both of which were attended by Councilor for Commerce, Sebastiano Costalonga.

Terre del Dogado will continue to pursue this goal by involving more and more people and authorities in the project so that it can be brought to light in the near future.
